Additional Inspector General of Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Shaukat Abbas visited the Frontier Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Bannu following a deadly militant attack thwarted by security forces.
Officials said the CTD Crime Scene Unit, investigation and prosecution teams, and senior police leadership including Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan were present during the visit. The Additional IGP inspected the site in detail and commended the bravery of officers and soldiers who took part in the operation.
According to police, militants of the banned outfit labeled “Fitna al-Khawarij” launched a pre-dawn assault on the FC headquarters a day earlier. FC personnel on duty retaliated immediately, while CTD Bannu teams rushed to the scene and joined the operation with police and other security units. A heavy exchange of fire ensued for several hours.
During the clash six security personnel embraced martyrdom, while 15 others including two majors sustained injuries. In a robust counter-offensive, forces killed four attackers on the spot. A search and strike operation remains under way in surrounding areas to flush out any remaining militants.
Addressing personnel, Shaukat Abbas praised the seamless coordination between CTD, FC, and other security agencies, stressing that “relentless action will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated and the menace of Fitna al-Khawarij is eradicated from the country.”
