ASI Shot Dead in Targeted Attack in Karachi’s Bin Qasim Town, TTP Claims Responsibility

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in Bin Qasim Town on Tuesday, as armed assailants opened fire on him outside his residence. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) later claimed responsibility for the killing. According to Bin Qasim Police Station House Officer (SHO) Faisal Rafiq, ASI Muhammad Khan Abro was travelling in a car when armed men on a motorcycle ambushed him as he stepped out of the vehicle near his home. The attackers opened fire and fled the scene.

ASI Abro sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead. The SHO said that the incident appeared to be an act of targeted killing, though investigators are examining whether it was linked to terrorism or a personal enmity.

The slain officer had previously served as in-charge of the Ghaghar Phatak police post and was currently posted at Steel Town Police Station. Meanwhile, a Sindh government spokesperson confirmed that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident, directed Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report, and ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

Officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said that CCTV footage of the attack has been obtained, showing two assailants on a motorcycle. Both were wearing helmets and masks, and had conducted reconnaissance of the area before carrying out the shooting. The TTP later issued a statement claiming responsibility for the killing of ASI Abro.
