In a daring overnight assault, Khawarij from the joint network of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehrik-e-Jihad Afghanistan (TTG), operating under the banner of Al-Ittihad al-Mujahideen, launched a coordinated attack on the Khuni Khel police checkpoint within the jurisdiction of Khuni Khel Police Station in Bannu district.
Armed with both light and heavy weapons, the Khawarij attempted to overrun the post under the cover of darkness. However, the brave personnel of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police responded with exemplary courage, engaging the attackers in intense combat and holding their ground with unwavering resolve.
In an extraordinary display of public spirit and patriotism, local civilians also rose to the occasion, joining the police on the frontlines. Standing shoulder to shoulder with the security forces, they confronted the attackers with remarkable grit and unity. Their combined resistance sent the Khawarij into disarray and forced them into retreat.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Saleem Abbas Kallachi, commended the courage of the police personnel and praised the people of the area for their unwavering support.
“The spirit shown by our citizens has further strengthened the resolve of the police. We will never allow the enemies of peace to harm our people. The truth will prevail,” the DPO stated.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and a tight cordon is in place as security forces intensify operations to eliminate the threat and ensure lasting peace.
