Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, met with his Chinese counterpart Yue Xiaoyong in Islamabad on July 27 to discuss growing regional security threats, with a sharp focus on Afghanistan.
The meeting, described by Sadiq as “candid and focused,” underscored mutual concerns over the presence and activities of terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil—particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad considers a major national security threat.
Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that counterterrorism cooperation with China is essential to maintaining regional stability. Both envoys stressed the need for stronger bilateral coordination to prevent cross-border attacks and promote long-term peace in the region.
Pakistan has repeatedly pressed the Afghan Taliban to take concrete action against the TTP, warning that future relations depend on the group’s seriousness in dealing with terrorism within its borders.
