Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir on Tuesday attended the funeral prayers of Major Syed Moeez Abbas Shah, who embraced martyrdom during a fierce exchange of fire with India-sponsored Khawarij terrorists in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan, the military’s media wing said.
The funeral ceremony, held at Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi, was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, senior military leadership, and fellow officers who gathered to honour the supreme sacrifice of the young officer. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major Moeez was laid to rest with full military honours, and his body was dispatched to his ancestral hometown for burial.
Speaking at the solemn occasion, COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir paid glowing tribute to the martyred officer, saying Major Moeez displayed exemplary courage in the line of duty and laid down his life while fearlessly confronting the enemies of the state. “He upheld the highest traditions of bravery, loyalty, and patriotism,” the Army Chief said. “His sacrifice is a testament to our unyielding resolve to eliminate terrorism and safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty.”
Field Marshal Munir emphasised that the entire nation stands firmly with the family of the martyr. “We are indebted to our heroes. The blood of our martyrs is the foundation of national strength and unity,” he remarked.
According to the ISPR, Major Moeez embraced martyrdom while leading from the front during an intelligence-based operation against externally abetted terrorist elements. His valour, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty embody the spirit of the Pakistan Army’s fight against terrorism.
The Pakistan Armed Forces reaffirmed their determination to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs by continuing the mission to secure lasting peace and stability in the country.
