In a significant breakthrough against violent extremism, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sahiwal apprehended a key operative of the proscribed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a high-stakes intelligence-based operation near the Western Bypass in Okara. According to senior CTD officials, the detained individual, Zahid Hamid a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan was affiliated with the TTP’s Khawarij network and had infiltrated the region with clear intentions to carry out terrorist activities. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, CTD teams intercepted and arrested him before he could execute his plans.
Explosive materials, detonators, prima card, and a fully functional electric circuit were recovered from the suspect’s possession, indicating the imminent threat he posed to public safety.
“The presence of such a dangerous Khawarij element in a densely populated area underscores the urgency and precision of our counterterrorism operations,” an official stated. “This arrest not only neutralized a serious threat but also reaffirmed our resolve to dismantle the networks that continue to endanger innocent lives.”
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Zahid Hamid under anti-terrorism laws, and comprehensive investigations are underway to identify his facilitators, sleeper cells, and broader operational links.
CTD Punjab reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to pursue and eliminate all Khawarij elements from the province, stressing that every attempt to destabilize peace will be met with decisive and uncompromising action.
