Armed resistance against the Taliban’s oppressive rule in Afghanistan has received fresh momentum, as two top commanders of the National Resistance Front (NRF) — Khalid Amiri and Hasib Panjshiri — have reappeared in newly circulated photos taken in Afghanistan’s mountainous regions. The images show both commanders fully armed and in military uniform, signaling active resistance operations on the ground.

NRF sources confirmed to Afghanistan International that the photos are recent and both commanders are currently operating inside Afghanistan, continuing the fight against the Taliban regime.

In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Hasib Panjshiri openly condemned the Taliban, declaring:“Our country is under the occupation of terrorist Taliban forces. We are fighting to free and liberate our land from the grip of this criminal group, and we have full faith in our victory.”

Their reappearance comes just one day after NRF leader Ahmad Massoud was reported to have visited Mashhad, Iran, where he met with Afghan political figures including Atta Mohammad Noor. Sources say Massoud held talks with senior Iranian officials, including representatives from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Voices of Resistance Against the Taliban

Khalid Amiri, a senior NRF commander and former special forces officer in the Afghan National Army, has been a key figure in anti-Taliban resistance since the fall of Kabul in 2021. Shortly after the Taliban takeover, he relocated to Panjshir and led several armed operations. In 2022, Amiri famously shared a photo of a Taliban helicopter shot down in the Hindu Kush mountains — a bold symbol of defiance. He also released videos of captured Taliban fighters, who he reportedly later released.

Hasib Panjshiri, widely known as “Hasib Qowaye Markaz”, is another prominent NRF commander under Ahmad Massoud’s leadership. A former special unit operative of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), he returned to his native Panjshir after Kabul’s fall and has remained on the front lines of the armed resistance.

Their resurgence sends a clear message: armed resistance against the Taliban is not only alive but regaining strength and organization, representing a growing challenge to the regime’s grip on Afghanistan.
