Security forces successfully thwarted a suicide attack targeting the Fateh Khel Police Station in Bannu district on Saturday late night. According to preliminary reports, two police personnel were martyred, while two others sustained injuries. In addition, several civilians, including women and children, were injured due to the explosion and collateral damage.
The attack was reportedly carried out by militants affiliated with the outlawed extremist group, who attempted to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into the police station. The vehicle was intercepted and neutralized by vigilant police personnel before it could reach its intended target, averting a potentially greater tragedy.
The blast, however, caused significant structural damage to the police station, including the collapse of its roof, and inflicted heavy damage on nearby residential homes. Rescue operations and clearance of debris are currently underway, with security forces maintaining a strict cordon around the affected area to ensure public safety and facilitate ongoing investigations.
Senior police officials confirmed that at least two bodies have been recovered from the blast site, and four civilians have been injured in the incident. The Ittehad Ul Mujaheedin Pakistan(IMP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Local residents reported extensive damage to their homes, with some structures partially or fully collapsed as a result of the explosion.
In a separate but related incident, police successfully repelled another attempted assault on the Dadiwala Police Station in neighboring Lakki Marwat district, where armed assailants tried to breach the facility. No casualties were reported in this second attack, and law enforcement authorities continue to pursue the perpetrators.
Authorities have urged residents in both districts to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Security forces are conducting thorough area sweeps, and further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
