Terrorists attempted to target Hassan Khel Police Station on the outskirts of Peshawar with an improvised explosive device (IED) dropped by a quadcopter drone on Wednesday morning, but the attempt was foiled when the device became entangled in the station’s anti-drone net before reaching the roof.

The locally assembled device was concealed inside an energy drink bottle, with nuts and bolts used as fragmentation material, according to the information available about the incident.

The anti-drone net prevented the device from reaching the police station’s roof, demonstrating the role of protective counter-drone measures in thwarting attempts to use commercially available aerial platforms to target law enforcement facilities.

The incident highlights the evolving tactics employed by terrorists, who are increasingly attempting to exploit drones to deliver improvised explosive devices against security installations. The use of a quadcopter to carry an explosive device also underscores the importance of strengthening counter-drone defenses around police stations and other sensitive facilities.
