In Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province, local sources report that two young girls have been detained by Taliban authorities in the provincial capital, Taloqan, with no confirmed information yet available about their current whereabouts or condition.
According to local accounts, the incident took place on Wednesday evening, 2nd of Thawr, in the ‘Chaar Shuhada Sadak’ area of Taloqan city. The girls were reportedly taken into custody by Taliban personnel during the evening hours, after which all communication and trace of them was lost.
Residents and family members have since been seeking information, but there has been no official update or clarification from local Taliban authorities regarding the reasons for the detention or the status of the individuals involved.
The incident comes amid continued reports from various parts of Afghanistan over recent years alleging the detention of women and girls on charges linked to social conduct, including what authorities describe as non-compliance with dress code requirements.
Human rights observers have repeatedly raised concerns over such incidents, citing limited transparency, absence of due legal process, and lack of publicly accessible information regarding detainees.
The situation remains developing, with further details awaited as local sources continue to seek confirmation on the fate of the detained girls.
