Security forces eliminated two terrorists and recovered a suicide jacket during a search operation in Mohmand district, dealing another blow to terrorist networks attempting to operate in the region.
According to security sources, personnel of FC 205 Wing conducted a targeted search operation in the Sheikh Banda area of Haleemzai following intelligence regarding the presence of suspected terrorists.
During the operation, security forces encountered armed terrorists, triggering an exchange of fire. As a result, two terrorists were neutralized. A suicide jacket was also recovered from the area, indicating the possibility that the terrorists were planning a major attack targeting security forces or civilians.
Officials said the recovery of the suicide vest helped avert a potential act of terrorism and highlighted the continuing threat posed by extremist elements seeking to destabilize the region.
The operation was carried out in a remote mountainous area where movement and access remain challenging. Security personnel subsequently secured the area and initiated further search and clearance activities to ensure that no additional terrorists or explosive materials remained hidden in the vicinity.
Sources added that efforts are underway to establish the identities of the neutralized terrorists and determine their possible involvement in previous terrorist incidents in the district and surrounding areas.
The latest operation comes amid an ongoing nationwide counterterrorism campaign under the framework of the National Action Plan and Azm-e-Istehkam, with security forces intensifying intelligence-based operations against terrorist hideouts and facilitators.
Security officials reiterated their commitment to eliminating terrorist threats and preventing extremist groups from regrouping in border and tribal regions. Sanitization efforts in the area are continuing to ensure lasting security and stability.
This operation also reflects the broader security forces’ strategy of conducting intelligence-driven actions against terrorist networks before they can execute planned attacks, a tactic that has led to the disruption of several terrorist plots in recent months across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the merged tribal districts.
