Top Terror Commander Falls in Lakki Marwat–Bannu Border Operation

In a major counter-terrorism success, security forces have neutralized a highly wanted terrorist commander along with his associate during a targeted intelligence-based operation in the forested border region of Akhundan between Lakki Marwat and Bannu, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to police sources, the operation was launched on credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in a concealed camp established in a forested area. During the engagement, intense exchange of fire took place between law enforcement personnel and armed militants, resulting in the death of a key terrorist commander identified as Amir Sohail, also known by aliases “Akabi” and “Umar Khattab,” along with one of his associates. Several other militants reportedly sustained injuries and fled the scene under cover of darkness.

Authorities stated that Amir Sohail, son of Muhammad Zaman alias Guloon and a resident of Kotka Shah Muhammad in Lakki Marwat district, was a highly wanted individual involved in multiple serious terrorism-related cases. He was reportedly linked to targeted killings, attacks on police and security forces, bomb blasts, and other acts of violence that had significantly impacted regional security.

Officials confirmed that the neutralized commander was considered a key operational figure within a terrorist network active in the region, and his elimination is expected to significantly disrupt the group’s operational capabilities.

During the operation, Constable Atiq-ur-Rehman embraced martyrdom while displaying exceptional bravery in the line of duty. Security officials paid tribute to his sacrifice, stating that his courage reflects the unwavering commitment of law enforcement personnel in the fight against terrorism.

Following the encounter, police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) units cordoned off the area and launched an intensified search and clearance operation to track down fleeing suspects and dismantle any remaining militant presence in the region.

Authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue intelligence-based operations across the province until all terrorist elements are eliminated, emphasizing that sacrifices made by security personnel strengthen the state’s determination to restore lasting peace and stability.
