Taliban Hit on Eight Fronts: Afghanistan United Front Launches 16 Attacks, Claims 18 Taliban Killed

The Afghanistan United Front (AUF), led by Sami Sadat, has claimed a significant escalation in its armed campaign against the Taliban regime, announcing that its forces carried out 16 attacks across eight Afghan provinces over the past week, reportedly killing 18 Taliban members and wounding nine others.

According to a series of statements issued by the Front between 22 and 29 October, the operations targeted Taliban security personnel, police officials, intelligence operatives, checkpoints, and military vehicles across Kandahar, Kapisa, Helmand, Ghor, Zabul, Badakhshan, Ghazni, and Parwan provinces.

The geographical spread and frequency of the reported attacks indicate an expanding campaign by the Afghanistan United Front, which appears determined to challenge the Taliban administration’s security apparatus across multiple regions of the country.

The operations reportedly included coordinated assaults on Taliban positions, targeted attacks against individual officials, and strikes on security vehicles and checkpoints.

The Front’s latest operational claims underscore the continuing challenge facing the Taliban authorities in maintaining security and control across Afghanistan, particularly as armed opposition activity extends beyond its initial strongholds in the south.

A review of the Afghanistan United Front’s statements reveals that its claimed operations were distributed across eight provinces, with Kandahar, Helmand, Kapisa, Ghor, and Zabul accounting for the majority of reported incidents.

According to the Front:

  • Kandahar witnessed four reported operations.
  • Helmand and Kapisa witnessed four additional operations collectively.
  • Ghor and Zabul each recorded two reported operations.
  • Badakhshan, Ghazni, and Parwan each witnessed one reported operation.

The reported casualty figures stand at 18 Taliban personnel killed and nine wounded during the period under review. The Front’s claims, if independently verified, would represent a notable series of security setbacks for Taliban forces across geographically dispersed areas.

22 October – Multiple Attacks in Helmand and Kapisa

In a statement issued on 22 October, the Afghanistan United Front claimed responsibility for four separate attacks in the first and fifth police districts of Lashkar Gah city in Helmand Province and Hesa Awal Kohistan district of Kapisa Province.

According to the Front, the attacks resulted in the deaths of five Taliban members and the destruction of a Taliban Ranger vehicle. The incidents highlighted the group’s continued activity in southern Afghanistan while demonstrating its claimed operational reach into Kapisa.

23 October – Taliban Police Officer Targeted in Kandahar

In another statement issued on 23 October, the Front claimed that it had targeted a Taliban police officer in Daman district of Kandahar Province. The officer was reportedly killed during the attack, while his motorcycle was seized by the attackers. The incident added to the series of reported attacks against Taliban security personnel in Kandahar, a province of particular political and strategic importance to the Taliban leadership.

26 October – Seven Simultaneous Operations Across Six Provinces

The most extensive series of reported operations took place on 26 October, when the Afghanistan United Front announced seven simultaneous attacks across six provinces. In Ghor Province, separate attacks in Charsada district and Firozkoh city reportedly resulted in four Taliban members being killed and seven others wounded. Additional attacks were reported in:

  • Qalat city, Zabul Province.
  • Muqur district, Ghazni Province.
  • The Gulbahar foothills of Jabal Saraj, Parwan Province.
  • Tagab district, Badakhshan Province.
  • Dand district, Kandahar Province.

According to the Front, these operations resulted in five additional Taliban members being killed and two wounded. The simultaneous nature and geographical distribution of the reported incidents represent one of the most significant aspects of the Front’s latest operational claims, suggesting an effort to maintain pressure on Taliban security formations across multiple provinces.

27 October – Taliban Intelligence and Police Officials Killed

In statements issued on 27 October, the Front reported two further targeted attacks against Taliban officials. A Taliban intelligence officer was reportedly killed in Shahr-e Safa district of Zabul Province. In a separate incident in Tagab district of Kapisa Province, a Taliban police officer identified as Mullah Samargul was reportedly killed. These incidents further added to the Front’s claims of sustained attacks against Taliban security and intelligence personnel.

29 October – Further Attacks in Kandahar

The Afghanistan United Front reported two additional operations in Kandahar Province on 29 October. In the first incident, the group claimed to have attacked a Taliban checkpoint in Arghistan district. No casualties were reported in this engagement. In a separate attack in Spin Boldak district, the Front claimed to have targeted a Taliban vehicle, killing one Taliban member and destroying the vehicle. These latest incidents indicate the Front’s continued operational activity in Kandahar, where it initially launched its armed campaign against the Taliban administration.

The reported attacks come amid the Afghanistan United Front’s expanding campaign against the Taliban administration, which the group formally announced in August this year. Initially concentrating its operations in southern Afghanistan, particularly Kandahar Province, the Front now claims to have expanded its activities into several other regions, including central, northern, and western parts of the country.

The reported operations across eight provinces suggest that the Front is seeking to challenge the Taliban’s security structures beyond a limited geographical theatre. Its stated campaign has increasingly focused on Taliban police personnel, intelligence officials, security checkpoints, and military vehicles.

The expansion of claimed operations into provinces such as Badakhshan, Parwan, Kapisa, and Ghor also draws attention to the continuing presence of armed opposition movements in different parts of Afghanistan.
