Tribal elders and security officials have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace in South Waziristan following a recent firing incident that injured a child, as local communities pledged greater cooperation against terrorist and criminal elements operating in the area.
A key jirga was convened in the Janata area of South Waziristan, where the local commanding officer of Frontier Corps (South) met tribal elders and community representatives at Nishpa-II to discuss the recent firing incident near Kaza Post.
According to participants, the meeting focused on the circumstances surrounding the attack, which resulted in injuries to a child and raised concerns about the safety of local residents living near sensitive areas.
During the jirga, security officials informed tribal elders that strict action would be taken against those involved in acts of violence and sabotage. Residents were also urged not to allow miscreants, terrorists, or criminal elements to use homes, compounds, or populated areas for firing positions, hideouts, or other unlawful activities.
The commanding officer emphasized that terrorists often attempt to exploit civilian areas to evade detection and create unrest, placing local communities, particularly women and children, at risk. He stressed that public cooperation remains essential for identifying suspicious activities and preventing future incidents.
Tribal elders assured security forces of their full support, pledging to play an active role in preventing violence and denying space to elements seeking to destabilize the region. They reiterated their commitment to preserving peace and safeguarding local communities from the effects of terrorism and lawlessness.
Participants also highlighted the sacrifices made by the people of South Waziristan over the years in the fight against terrorism and stressed that the region’s hard-won peace must not be allowed to deteriorate.
The jirga concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening coordination between tribal communities and security forces, with both sides agreeing that close cooperation, timely information-sharing, and community vigilance are vital for defeating terrorist networks and ensuring lasting stability in the area.
The meeting comes as security forces continue intelligence-based operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal districts under the broader Azm-e-Istehkam campaign, aimed at eliminating terrorist threats and preventing the re-emergence of extremist safe havens. Officials maintain that community support remains one of the most effective tools in countering terrorism and protecting civilians from future attacks.
