Police foiled a suspected IED attack in the Chapri Feroz Khel area of Lower Orakzai after a patrol party spotted terrorists allegedly planting an explosive device near the Garaj checkpost.
According to sources, the terrorists were attempting to plant the IED along the roadside when the police patrol unexpectedly reached the area. The officers immediately opened fire after spotting the suspects, forcing them to flee.
The terrorists abandoned the explosive material and escaped under cover of the firing. No casualties among police personnel were reported in the incident.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was subsequently called to the site and safely defused the explosive material using professional procedures, preventing a potentially serious attack in the area.
The incident highlights the continued threat posed by terrorists attempting to target security personnel and use roadside explosives against patrols and other traffic.
A search operation is currently underway in the surrounding area to track down the fleeing terrorists and determine whether additional explosives or other material have been concealed nearby.
Security and law-enforcement personnel have also stepped up checking and surveillance in the area following the foiled attack.
