One terrorist was eliminated during a fierce exchange of fire between police and Fitna al-Khwarij terrorists in the vicinity of Regi Model Town and the adjoining border areas of Jamrud, police sources said on Sunday.
According to the sources, the encounter took place during a targeted operation launched after law enforcement agencies received intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists in the area. As police teams moved to intercept the suspects, the terrorists opened fire, triggering an intense gun battle.
Police responded with a swift and coordinated counteraction, eliminating one terrorist during the exchange. Several of his accomplices managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Immediately after the encounter, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search and clearance operation to trace and apprehend the escaping terrorists. Additional police contingents were deployed at key routes and surrounding localities to prevent the militants from escaping the security dragnet.
Police officials said operations to locate the fleeing terrorists are continuing, adding that intelligence-based actions would remain underway until every member of the terrorist group operating in the area is brought to justice.
The latest operation comes amid an intensified counterterrorism campaign across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police, security forces and other law enforcement agencies have stepped up intelligence-based operations against Fitna al-Khwarij. Authorities maintain that sustained pressure on terrorist networks is essential to prevent attacks on civilians and security personnel and to deny terrorists the ability to regroup or establish safe havens in the province.
