The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a surprise attack targeting a Taliban reinforcement convoy traveling from Kabul toward Badakhshan, stating that the operation resulted in multiple Taliban casualties while AFF fighters withdrew without losses.
According to a statement issued by the Afghanistan Freedom Front, the operation took place on the evening of Saturday, 25 July 2026. The convoy, consisting of military vehicles transporting Taliban personnel and military equipment, was reportedly traveling from Kabul toward Badakhshan Province to reinforce Taliban positions amid ongoing clashes in the region.
The AFF stated that its fighters had been tracking the convoy after it departed Kabul and continued surveillance as it moved north through the strategic Salang corridor. The group claimed that the convoy was ultimately ambushed in the Dushi District area along the Kabul–Badakhshan route, where AFF fighters launched a coordinated rocket attack against the advancing column.
According to the Afghanistan Freedom Front, the convoy was carrying additional Taliban personnel, military supplies, and logistical support intended to strengthen Taliban operations in Badakhshan, where fighting has intensified in recent days.
The AFF claimed that the attack resulted in the deaths of seven Taliban fighters, while six additional heavily armed Taliban militants were wounded during the operation.
The organization further stated that none of its fighters were injured or killed during the attack and that all participating personnel safely withdrew after successfully completing the operation.
The reported ambush comes amid escalating hostilities in Badakhshan Province, where the Afghanistan Freedom Front has recently claimed a series of operations against Taliban positions, including attacks on checkpoints, military installations, and reinforcement movements. The group has asserted that its operations are intended to disrupt Taliban military deployments and limit the movement of reinforcements into active conflict zones.
