A resident of Bannu has publicly disowned his younger brother over his association with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), saying the family has suffered considerable difficulties because of his activities.
In a video message circulated on social media, Nehad Khan, a resident of Gula Noor Barkzai within the jurisdiction of Miryan Police Station, said his 28-year-old brother Amanullah had been associated with the banned TTP for the past two to three years.
Nehad Khan said the alleged association had caused serious difficulties for the family, prompting him and other family members to publicly distance themselves from Amanullah.
“We have no relation with Amanullah, and neither does anyone in our family,” he said, adding that Amanullah neither comes to their home nor do they invite him back.
Nehad Khan said law enforcement authorities were free to deal with his brother according to the law and whatever action they deemed appropriate.
“He was our brother, he is not our brother, and he will never be our brother,” he said.
Appealing to the government and security authorities, Nehad Khan requested that he and his family members not be subjected to any difficulties or contacted in connection with Amanullah.
He went on to make an unusually strong statement regarding his brother, saying that if Amanullah was killed during an operation, the authorities could dispose of his body as they considered appropriate.
“He is no longer needed by us, neither alive nor dead,” Nehad Khan said.
The statement reflects the growing public pressure on families to distance themselves from relatives accused of joining terrorist organizations, particularly in areas affected by continuing counterterrorism operations.
