Bannu Police successfully foiled a major sabotage attempt after defusing a 10-kilogram remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) planted near Gul Zaman Mosque along the Bannu-Miranshah Road within the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Yasir Afridi, police acted swiftly after receiving information about the presence of a suspicious explosive device in the area. A heavy police contingent was immediately dispatched to the scene, where officers cordoned off the vicinity and launched a search operation to ensure public safety.

The DPO said all necessary precautionary measures were taken to protect residents and prevent any potential loss of life or property.

He added that the Bomb Disposal Squad demonstrated professional expertise and extreme caution while safely neutralizing the remote-controlled IED. Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosive device had been planted with the intention of carrying out an act of terrorism and disrupting peace and order in the district.

Officials described the successful operation as a significant achievement in preventing what could have been a major tragedy, particularly given the device’s size and its location near a mosque and a busy roadway.

DPO Yasir Afridi reiterated that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of Bannu Police. He emphasized that operations against terrorists will continue under a zero-tolerance policy, adding that law enforcement agencies remain fully committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
