A joint intelligence-based operation by district police and the Counter-Terrorism Department in Bannu led to the arrest of two suspected individuals and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and surveillance equipment.
The operation was conducted in Bazaar Ahmad Khan within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts to disrupt networks involved in planning, facilitating or supporting terrorist activity in the district.
During the operation, security teams recovered four Kalashnikov rifles, 10 magazines, a bandolier, a drone, two laptops, five mobile phones, a reconnaissance device and a dagger from the suspects.
The recovery of multiple automatic weapons along with electronic devices, a drone and reconnaissance equipment has raised the possibility that the material was intended to support terrorist planning, surveillance or other security-related activity. Authorities are examining the seized devices and equipment as part of the ongoing investigation.
The two suspects are being interrogated to determine their possible links with terrorist networks and establish the purpose of the recovered weapons, communications equipment and surveillance material.
The seized items have been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
The operation forms part of intensified counterterrorism measures in Bannu, where security and law-enforcement agencies continue to conduct intelligence-led actions aimed at identifying terrorist facilitators, disrupting weapons networks and preventing attacks before they can be carried out.
