Two people, including a Pakistan Army soldier who had returned home to spend Eid holidays with his family, were martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Sultan Khel Konj Ground area of Sikandar Khel in Khyber district’s Landi Kotal tehsil, according to local police sources.
The deceased were identified as Shah Fahad, son of Muhammad Ayaz, and Mehboob-ur-Rehman, also known as Budda. Both belonged to the Sikandar Khel area.
Sources said Shah Fahad was serving in the Pakistan Army and had recently arrived in his native area to celebrate Eid with his family when he was caught in the deadly shooting incident.
The attackers fled the scene after the firing, while local residents rushed to the area following the gunshots. The bodies were later shifted for legal formalities.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the shooting.
The incident comes amid continued security concerns in parts of Khyber district and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations against terrorist networks under the ongoing Azm-e-Istehkam campaign. Authorities have not yet indicated whether the latest attack was linked to terrorism, a personal dispute, or any other motive.
Further investigation is underway.
