An anti-Taliban resistance group has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on a vehicle belonging to Taliban Rangers at Torghundi Port in Afghanistan’s western Herat province on Monday afternoon.
The National Independence Front of Afghanistan (NIFA) said its fighters targeted the vehicle in the attack. The group said further information about possible casualties would be released after it gathered additional details.
The claim has not been independently verified, and no confirmed information was immediately available about casualties, the extent of damage to the vehicle, or the circumstances surrounding the attack. There was also no immediate response from Taliban authorities.
Torghundi, located in Herat province near Afghanistan’s border with Turkmenistan, is an important border crossing and commercial gateway connecting the two countries. It handles cross-border trade and serves as a key route for the movement of goods.
The claimed attack comes amid continuing activity by armed groups opposing Taliban rule. The National Independence Front has previously announced operations against Taliban security positions in several Afghan provinces, although claims made by resistance groups are not always independently verifiable.
Any confirmed attack on security personnel at Torghundi could raise fresh concerns about security around the strategic crossing. However, there is currently no verified indication that the incident disrupted border operations or commercial traffic.
