The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on the Taliban-controlled military section of Kabul Airport, saying the operation targeted key military and transport facilities used by the Taliban in the Afghan capital.
In a statement released on Friday, the group said its fighters launched multiple rockets at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, striking the military airfield in Kabul. The AFF claimed the attack inflicted significant damage on Taliban military infrastructure and resulted in multiple Taliban fighters being killed and injured.
The claims could not be independently verified, and Taliban authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
According to the AFF, the attack follows its recent claimed operation against the military airfield in Kunduz and forms part of a broader campaign targeting Taliban military assets across Afghanistan.
The group further alleged that the Taliban had increasingly relied on military airfields in Kabul, Kunduz, Kandahar and Balkh to transport domestic and foreign fighters to Badakhshan Province after facing repeated operational setbacks in Zebak district. The AFF claimed the latest strike was intended to disrupt those logistical and reinforcement routes.
Security conditions in Afghanistan have remained volatile, with anti-Taliban armed groups continuing to claim attacks on Taliban positions in several provinces. While the Taliban maintains that it has established nationwide security since returning to power in 2021, resistance groups continue to report operations targeting Taliban personnel and installations.
The reported rocket attack on Kabul’s military airfield, if confirmed, would mark another significant challenge to the Taliban’s security apparatus and highlight the continued ability of armed opposition groups to strike strategic military locations in the country.
