A devastating roadside bomb attack killed six Pakistani Army personnel, including a senior Special Operations commander, and injured five others in the restive Kachhi district of Balochistan on Monday.
Security sources confirmed the incident occurred in the Gestri area, between the Amir Post and Ali Khan Base, as a military vehicle was on a routine patrol. The blast, triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED), struck the vehicle with deadly force.
Among the fatalities were Special Operations Commander Tariq Imran, Naik Asif, Subedar Farooq, Naik Mashkoor, Sepoy Wajid, and Sepoy Kashif. Five of the deceased were reportedly affiliated with Unit 135-W.
The injured include Sepoy Zeeshan, Sepoy Shadman, Naik Owais (also of Unit 135-W), and two soldiers from the Special Operations Command — Sepoy Zainullah and Sepoy Tayyab.
Following the explosion, security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation in an effort to track down those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but Balochistan has long seen a low-level insurgency, with militants targeting security forces in the mineral-rich province.
