Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that Pakistan has credible intelligence indicating a possible Indian attack anywhere along the Line of Control (LoC), vowing that any aggression would be met with a “resounding response.”
Speaking to the media, Asif said that India’s current posture is driven by internal political motives, particularly ahead of upcoming elections. “Narendra Modi is staging this entire drama for votes,” the minister remarked. He accused the Indian prime minister of escalating regional tensions and dragging the subcontinent toward the brink of nuclear conflict.
Reiterating Pakistan’s position on the Pahalgam incident, in which 26 civilians were killed in Indian-administered Kashmir, Asif reminded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already called for an independent international commission to investigate the attack. “Let a transparent probe determine whether India itself was behind it or whether any group in India carried it out,” he said, adding that only a fair investigation could confirm whether the allegations against Pakistan carry any weight.
“It must be decided once and for all — is Narendra Modi lying or telling the truth?” Asif questioned. “If he’s lying, the world must call him out: Modi, you’re a liar, and you’re endangering peace across the region.”
The defence minister further accused India of supporting terrorism inside Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He noted that Pakistan had already presented evidence at the United Nations in 2016 and 2017, including video footage showing Indian agents funding and directing terrorist activities.
Asif added that current cross-border violence in both provinces is being executed from Afghan soil, but “India is behind it.”
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, as regional and international observers closely monitor developments following the Pahalgam attack and subsequent diplomatic fallout.
