Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited the United Kingdom to support and participate in an impartial international investigation into the Pahalgam attack, and called on London to leverage its diplomatic influence to help de-escalate regional tensions.
During a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif outlined Pakistan’s position on the worsening security climate in South Asia following the April 22 attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir that left 26 civilians dead.
He dismissed India’s efforts to link Pakistan to the incident, reiterating Islamabad’s demand for a transparent, neutral investigation led by international stakeholders. The Prime Minister emphasized that such a probe is necessary to expose misinformation and prevent further regional instability.
The meeting is part of a broader diplomatic outreach by Pakistan in recent days. The Prime Minister has spoken with leaders and officials from the United States, China, Russia, Iran, and Malaysia, consistently reaffirming Pakistan’s call for an unbiased investigation and condemning India’s “baseless allegations.”
Despite an aggressive media narrative pushed by the Modi government, India’s claims have failed to gain significant traction internationally. Independent Indian media, civil society, and segments of the public have also expressed doubts about the government’s version of events.
As calls grow for accountability and restraint, Pakistan continues to push for international engagement to counter what it views as politically motivated accusations designed to deflect attention from internal issues in India.
