Taliban Accused of Selling or Smuggling U.S. Weapons to Terror Groups: UN Report

Taliban, Smuggling, U.S. Weapons

A recent report by a British media outlet has alleged that the Afghan Taliban, after coming to power, have sold or smuggled at least 500,000 U.S. weapons left behind by American forces to terrorist groups.

The report cites findings from a United Nations Security Council Committee, revealing that the Taliban themselves have admitted that more than half of the military equipment in their possession is unaccounted for. According to the UN, many of these weapons have now ended up in the hands of terrorist groups operating within Afghanistan, including ISIS-K, Al-Qaeda, and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Sources indicate that the modern weaponry abandoned in Afghanistan is now being actively used in militant operations, posing a serious security threat to Pakistan and the broader region.

Both the United Nations and the international community have expressed deep concern over the situation, urging the Taliban to immediately disclose details of the missing military equipment and take concrete steps to prevent the flow of arms to terrorist organisations, in order to avoid potential military repercussions.
