Terrorists used local residential areas as firing positions to attack security forces’ checkposts in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan, exposing nearby civilians to heavy weapons fire and causing extensive damage to houses.

According to local reports, the terrorists used populated areas as makeshift bunkers and launched rockets, mortar shells and other heavy weapons at security forces’ checkposts.

During the attack, explosive projectiles landed in residential areas, severely damaging several houses. No casualties had been reported at the time of filing this report.

The use of civilian localities as firing positions is not an isolated tactic. Terrorist groups have repeatedly employed the same pattern across districts affected by terrorism, using residential areas as cover and launchpads for attacks on security installations.

Similar incidents documented in previous reports from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have shown how terrorists deliberately expose local populations to the risks of retaliatory fire and falling explosives by operating from within or near civilian settlements.

Such tactics put residents directly in the line of fire, damage civilian property and turn populated neighborhoods into potential battlegrounds. They also complicate security forces’ efforts to respond to attacks while minimizing risks to civilians.

The latest incident in Mir Ali once again highlights the pattern of terrorists exploiting civilian surroundings for operational cover, with local residents bearing the consequences of attacks they neither initiated nor control.
