Terrorists targeted a polio vaccination team in Mohmand district, opening fire on the team and its accompanying security personnel in the Yaka Ghund area, but no casualties were reported.
The attack took place in Mosal Kor, Rangeena Ghundai, within the jurisdiction of Yaka Ghundai, where terrorists opened fire on the vaccination team. Security personnel accompanying the polio workers returned fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire between the two sides.
According to local sources, all members of the vaccination team and their security escort remained safe. Further details about the attackers and their casualties were not immediately available.
The incident comes amid a series of attacks targeting personnel and workers associated with Pakistan’s anti-polio campaign in southern and central parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier, two police personnel, Constables Zahoor Khan and Arabi Khan, were martyred and another sustained injuries when armed assailants attacked policemen deployed for polio security near Hashim Kor checkpost in the Dag Tamanzai area of Pindialai tehsil, Mohmand district.
In a separate incident in Tank district, four polio vaccination workers were abducted by armed men in Jious village of Sheikh Attar Union Council while performing their duties during the ongoing vaccination campaign. The abductors reportedly took them to an undisclosed location.
The successive incidents have raised serious concerns over the security of polio vaccination teams and personnel assigned to protect them, particularly in districts where terrorist threats continue to disrupt public health operations.
