A jirga of tribal elders and members of the Malik Shahi tribe was held in Shewa tehsil of North Waziristan, with participants calling for effective counterterrorism measures to curb the movement of suspected terrorists and protect local communities.
The jirga discussed the prevailing security situation, the reported increase in the movement of suspected terrorist elements and the difficulties being faced by residents in the area.
Participants said suspected terrorist elements were allegedly putting pressure on local residents to obtain various facilities and support, causing growing concern among the population.
The elders claimed that around 95 percent of the local population opposed the presence of terrorist elements and wanted effective action to restore and maintain peace.
The jirga called for practical measures to restrict the movement of suspected terrorists, prevent them from exploiting local communities and strengthen protection for civilians.
The participants also emphasized the need for sustained counterterrorism efforts to prevent terrorist elements from establishing influence in the area or using local communities to facilitate their activities.
The elders demanded concrete steps to restore law and order and ensure that residents are protected from pressure, intimidation and the activities of suspected terrorists.
