Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of acting as a “B-team” of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), alleging that the party is facilitating terrorists and failing to condemn their activities.
Speaking about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tarar criticized the provincial government, accusing it of remaining disconnected from the deteriorating law and order situation and avoiding necessary measures to address security challenges.
The federal minister also targeted KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, alleging that he and other PTI leaders were aligned with terrorist elements. Tarar claimed that the provincial government was facilitating terrorists instead of taking effective action against them.
He further alleged that PTI leaders had failed to openly condemn terrorist attacks, raising questions about the party’s position on the security challenges facing the province.
Tarar also accused the KP government of attempting to turn the provincial police into a political force, rather than allowing the law enforcement agency to focus on maintaining law and order and combating terrorism.
The federal minister’s remarks came amid political tensions over PTI’s planned protest in Islamabad. He challenged the party to demonstrate its resolve by coming to the capital and holding its announced demonstration.
Accusing PTI of lacking preparations for the protest, Tarar alleged that the party was attempting to create unrest under the guise of political agitation and undermine the prevailing security situation.
He reiterated that security forces remained committed to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace, emphasizing the resolve to continue counterterrorism efforts.
The allegations against PTI and the KP government reflect the growing political friction surrounding security policy, counterterrorism measures and the provincial administration’s response to the threat posed by terrorist groups.
