Four terrorists were eliminated and another was arrested during separate operations and encounters in different parts of Karachi, with police recovering weapons, ammunition, mobile phones and a stolen motorcycle from the suspects.
In the first operation, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a raid near Ghazi Goth in Manghopir after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, according to CTD sources.
As CTD personnel approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire on the raiding team. The personnel returned fire, killing two suspects during the ensuing exchange.
The bodies of the two suspects were shifted to Jinnah Hospital, where they were identified as 23-year-old Yahya, son of Abdul Wahid, and Hilal, son of Syed Muhammad.
CTD sources said both men were affiliated with the banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) and were commanders of the organization. Further investigation into their activities and possible links to other terrorist networks was underway.
In a separate incident in Karachi’s Central District, Liaquatabad police exchanged fire with terrorists near the Three Hatti flyover on the service road, according to a police spokesperson.
One terrorist was killed during the encounter, while his accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Police shifted the body to a hospital, where the process of identifying the deceased was initiated.
A .30-bore pistol, two rounds of ammunition, Rs1,200 in cash, three mobile phones and a Unique 70 motorcycle were recovered from the dead suspect, police said. Efforts were subsequently launched to trace and arrest the fleeing accomplice.
In another operation, police set up a checkpoint on Sindbad Road after receiving intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists. When personnel signaled two motorcyclists to stop, the suspects allegedly opened fire.
Police returned fire, injuring one of the suspects and arresting the other. The injured suspect was being shifted to hospital when he succumbed to his wounds.
A 70cc motorcycle and a .30-bore pistol were recovered from the scene. Police sources said the motorcycle had been snatched within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station.
The arrested suspect was identified as Athar Chandio, son of Didar, while the deceased suspect was identified as Muzaffar Chandio, son of Sheral Chandio. Police said both belonged to the Chandio gang.
According to police records, Muzaffar Chandio had eight cases registered against him at different police stations in Karachi. The cases included illegal possession of weapons, robbery, motorcycle theft, an attack on police personnel and other offenses.
Police are questioning Athar Chandio, with investigators expecting further information about the gang’s activities, its associates and possible involvement in other crimes and attacks.
The series of operations reflects continued police and CTD action against armed groups and suspected terrorists in Karachi, with investigators examining the recovered weapons, mobile phones and other material for possible links to additional cases.
