An attempted terrorist attack targeting a civilian passenger bus near Marjan-Garani in Kalat, Balochistan, has once again demonstrated the grave threat posed by militant violence against innocent civilians.
According to the available information, terrorists associated with the Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH) planted an improvised explosive device (IED) with the apparent intention of targeting a passenger bus carrying civilians. Fortunately, the device detonated prematurely, significantly limiting the extent of damage to the vehicle and preventing an even greater loss of life.
Despite the premature explosion, six civilians sustained injuries, including two children. The incident caused minor damage to the bus and left innocent passengers injured simply because they were travelling on a public road.
Following the explosion, security forces responded promptly and reached the site without delay. The injured civilians were provided immediate assistance and subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. The swift response of the security personnel helped facilitate the evacuation of the wounded and the securing of the affected area.
The attempted attack is a stark reminder that terrorism has no legitimate justification when its victims are ordinary men, women and children. Deliberately placing an explosive device to attack a civilian passenger bus is an act that endangers indiscriminately and has the potential to cause mass casualties.
The deliberate targeting of innocent passengers particularly children cannot be portrayed as a political struggle, resistance, or legitimate form of expression. Attacking civilians is terrorism.
No grievance, political objective, or ideological claim can justify planting explosives against a public transport vehicle carrying ordinary citizens. Such acts do not serve the interests of the people of Balochistan; rather, they expose innocent communities to fear, insecurity, injury and loss of life.
The attempted attack also highlights the indiscriminate nature of terrorist violence. A passenger travelling for work, a family returning home, or a child accompanying a parent can become a victim without warning. The premature detonation of the device may have prevented a far greater tragedy, but the injuries suffered by six civilians remain a serious reminder of the human cost of terrorism.
