Two more terrorists eliminated during a security operation in the Ghulam Khan border area of North Waziristan have been identified as Haider Muhajir and Umar Mukhtar Mubarak.
According to security sources, both terrorists were among those eliminated when security forces foiled an attempt by a group of terrorists to infiltrate Pakistan through the Ghulam Khan border area from Afghanistan.
The proscribed Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen has also confirmed the deaths of its two members, identifying them as Haider Muhajir and Umar Mukhtar Mubarak. The organization acknowledged that both were eliminated during the security forces’ operation.
The latest identifications provide further details about the group involved in the failed cross-border infiltration attempt, in which 27 terrorists were eliminated by security forces.
Earlier, a key commander of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Masood Shah alias Molvi Nusrat, was identified among the 27 terrorists eliminated during the attempted infiltration. Sources said Molvi Nusrat was a resident of Abakhel in Lakki Marwat and had served as the so-called welfare emir of the proscribed organization in Mianwali district.
Another terrorist eliminated during the same infiltration attempt was identified as Syed Ahmed Haroon, a resident of Afghanistan’s Paktia province.
The successive identifications have revealed the backgrounds and organizational links of several members of the group that attempted to enter Pakistan through the Ghulam Khan border. The emergence of Afghan nationals and members of different terrorist networks among those eliminated has also provided further insight into the composition of the infiltration group.
The latest development follows the identification of Mujtaba Umar Mukhtar, an Afghan national who was eliminated in a separate clash with security forces in Waziristan. Sources said Mujtaba was the son of Maulvi Sahib Abdul Fattah, also known as Sadiq, a former Afghan jihadist who had fought against the Soviet Union during the Soviet-Afghan War.
While Mujtaba was eliminated in a separate clash and was not part of the Ghulam Khan infiltration group, his identification, alongside the continuing identification of terrorists involved in the Ghulam Khan attempt, highlights the wider cross-border terrorist threat facing the region.
Security forces had detected and engaged the terrorists as they attempted to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan through the Ghulam Khan border area, preventing the group from entering the country.
The identification of Haider Muhajir and Umar Mukhtar Mubarak brings further clarity to the identities and organizational affiliations of those eliminated during the failed infiltration attempt, while the confirmation by Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen provides an additional indication of the terrorist group’s presence among those who attempted to cross the border.
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance along the western border and are taking action against terrorists attempting to infiltrate Pakistan and establish networks inside the country.
