Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a series of high-level diplomatic and defence engagements in Istanbul during his official visit to Türkiye, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening strategic, political and defence cooperation with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir held separate meetings with Saudi Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler, and Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.
The high-level engagements focused on matters of mutual interest, bilateral defence cooperation, strategic coordination and the prevailing security situation in the region. During the meetings, the participants exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral defence relations and enhancing coordination on regional security matters.
The discussions reflected the shared interest of Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia in maintaining close strategic communication and further expanding defence cooperation in areas of mutual benefit. The engagements also provided an opportunity to review the evolving regional security environment and explore avenues for enhanced coordination among the three countries.
During his visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir also participated in a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, established under the Makkah Agreement on Joint Defence between Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. The trilateral forum reviewed various mechanisms for strengthening strategic coordination and further enhancing defence cooperation among the three brotherly countries. The participants discussed ways to build upon existing channels of strategic communication and develop closer institutional coordination in support of shared interests and regional stability.
The participation of Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces in the trilateral strategic forum underscores the importance attached by Pakistan to its longstanding and multifaceted relations with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. Pakistan maintains close fraternal ties with both countries, while defence cooperation has remained an important component of these relationships. The latest engagements demonstrate a continued focus on strengthening institutional links, improving strategic coordination and expanding cooperation in the defence and security domains. The high-level meetings in Istanbul also highlighted the growing importance of trilateral engagement among Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the context of evolving regional security dynamics.
According to ISPR, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s engagements in Türkiye and his participation in the Strategic Political and Defence Committee meeting are reflective of the brotherly relations and expanding strategic and defence cooperation among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
The meetings reaffirmed the commitment of the three countries to maintaining close strategic consultations, strengthening defence ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation based on mutual interests and shared priorities.
