Security forces have launched a joint targeted operation against suspected terrorists and their facilitators in Dobando and adjoining areas of Upper Dir, according to police officials. The operation is being conducted as part of intensified security efforts aimed at identifying and neutralizing militant elements operating in the area, while strengthening security and surveillance across vulnerable locations.
According to police, personnel from multiple security and law-enforcement formations are participating in the operation, including the Pakistan Army, Upper Dir Police, Dir Scouts, Al-Barq Commandos, Elite Force, Rapid Response Force (RRF), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
The coordinated deployment reflects a multi-agency approach designed to enhance operational effectiveness and enable security personnel to respond to emerging threats across difficult and sensitive terrain. Officials said the operation is being supported by modern weapons, advanced surveillance and protective equipment, thermal devices and drone cameras. The use of thermal technology and aerial surveillance is intended to strengthen monitoring capabilities, particularly in areas where visibility and terrain can make conventional surveillance challenging.
Security personnel have also established enhanced security and monitoring arrangements around the operational area to prevent suspected militants and their facilitators from exploiting surrounding routes or attempting to evade the security cordon.
The operation is reportedly focused not only on suspected terrorists but also on individuals believed to be providing logistical, operational or other forms of assistance to militant networks. Security officials are expected to conduct targeted searches and intelligence-based actions as the operation progresses, while specialized teams remain prepared to respond to any explosive-related threat encountered during the clearance process.
The participation of the Bomb Disposal Squad is particularly important in view of the potential threat posed by improvised explosive devices and other explosive hazards in areas where militant activity has been reported. Authorities have simultaneously strengthened security arrangements in and around the operational zone. Surveillance measures have been expanded, while security personnel have been deployed at strategic points to monitor movement and maintain the safety of local communities.
The operation remains ongoing, and officials have not yet released details regarding arrests, casualties or the outcome of individual engagements. Authorities are expected to provide further information as the operation progresses and the situation on the ground becomes clearer.
