As Pakistan celebrates Independence Day, the families of the country’s martyrs are marking the occasion with an enduring sense of patriotism, pride and remembrance, describing the sacrifices of their loved ones as a golden chapter in the nation’s history.
The widow of Naik Ahmed Sharif Shaheed recalled her husband’s ultimate sacrifice for the defence of the motherland, saying he embraced martyrdom on August 7, 2021, in the Leepa Sector of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
She said that despite the pain of losing her husband, she remains proud that Allah bestowed upon him the honor of martyrdom.
Since his martyrdom, she said, she spends August 14 praying for all those who laid down their lives in defence of Pakistan.
She paid tribute to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the country, saying their sacrifices had secured the nation’s present and helped safeguard its future.
On Independence Day, she urged the nation not to allow the sacrifices of the martyrs to fade from memory and called upon citizens to play their part in protecting Pakistan.
The sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces in defending the country, she said, would remain an enduring part of the nation’s history, while the blood of the martyrs would never be allowed to go to waste.
For the families left behind, Independence Day is therefore both a national celebration and a deeply personal reminder of the price paid to preserve the country’s freedom, sovereignty and future.
