Two terrorists were eliminated during a joint counterterrorism operation by the Counter Terrorism Department and district police in Bannu, following a prolonged exchange of fire in the Akbar Ali Khan Kale area and adjoining localities within the jurisdiction of Domel Police Station.
According to police, CTD SWAT teams and district police launched the operation after tracking and pursuing terrorists in the area. The pursuit led to an intense gun battle between the law-enforcement personnel and the terrorists, with the exchange of fire continuing for a considerable period.
After the firefight subsided, security personnel conducted a detailed search operation across the area. The search confirmed the elimination of two terrorists.
The body of one terrorist was recovered from the scene, while the body of the second was reportedly taken away by his associates during the confusion following the encounter. Authorities are working to establish the identity of the eliminated terrorist whose body was recovered.
Weapons were also recovered during the search operation, including a sniper rifle and an M4 rifle, further indicating the operational capability and firepower of the terrorist group involved in the encounter.
Following the engagement, additional search and clearance operations continued in the surrounding areas to locate any remaining terrorist elements, recover further weapons or equipment, and ensure that no threat remains concealed in nearby settlements and routes.
The joint operation highlights the continued coordination between CTD’s specialized units and district police in counterterrorism efforts across Bannu, an area that has repeatedly remained a focus of terrorist activity.
The provincial police leadership and the CTD leadership reiterated that operations against terrorist elements would continue with full resolve until the threat of terrorism is eliminated.
They stressed that no compromise would be made in the fight against terrorism and that every possible measure would be taken to protect the lives and property of the public.
The latest operation has once again demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated law-enforcement action in pursuing terrorist networks, with two attackers eliminated and weapons seized during the encounter.
