The death toll from the suicide attack near Kabal Police Station in Swat has risen to 17, with seven police personnel and ten civilians martyred, while 23 others sustained injuries in the tragic incident.
According to rescue officials, Police Constable Mukaram Khan, who had been receiving medical treatment at Saidu Sharif Hospital after being injured in the attack, succumbed to his injuries, increasing the number of fatalities. The incident has resulted in significant loss of life among both law enforcement personnel and innocent citizens.
Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the attack was carried out through a suicide bombing. Security officials recovered the head of the attacker from the scene, while the Bomb Disposal Squad is conducting a detailed examination to determine the nature of the explosives and the material used in the attack.
Following the incident, a comprehensive investigation has been launched, and search operations are underway in the surrounding areas to identify and apprehend any facilitators or individuals linked to the attack.
Police authorities have stated that initial evidence indicates the possible involvement of a foreign national, reportedly an Afghan citizen, in the attack. However, final confirmation will only be made after the completion of the ongoing investigation and forensic analysis.
District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Umar Khan has reaffirmed that all individuals involved in planning, facilitating, and executing the attack will be identified and brought to justice. He stated that investigations are being conducted from every possible angle to uncover the complete network behind the attack.
A case regarding the Kabal suicide attack has also been registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station against unidentified individuals. The First Information Report includes charges related to murder, attempted murder, terrorism, and other relevant provisions of law.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of five police personnel martyred in the Kabal attack were offered with full state honors. The ceremony was held at the Police Training School Swat, where a formal guard of honor was presented in tribute to the fallen personnel.
Senior police officials, civil administration representatives, officers of the Pakistan Army, provincial government representatives, and family members of the martyrs attended the funeral ceremony. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute to the martyrs, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Hashim Khan and four other police personnel.
Floral wreaths were laid on the bodies of the martyrs as officials paid tribute to their ultimate sacrifices in the defense of peace, public safety, and national security. The sacrifices of the fallen personnel were honored with deep respect and recognition for their courage and dedication.
Following the funeral prayers, the bodies of the martyrs were transported to their respective native areas, where they will be laid to rest with full state honors.
