Security forces foiled a major terrorist attack on a joint police check post in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during the night of July 23-24, eliminating 12 terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khwarij, while 15 security personnel and a government official embraced martyrdom after the attackers detonated an explosives-laden vehicle against the post’s perimeter, the military’s media wing said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack was carried out by terrorists affiliated with the Indian-sponsored Fitna al-Khwarij, who attempted to storm the joint police check post under the cover of darkness.
The statement said the attackers’ attempt to breach the security perimeter was met with a swift and determined response by security forces and police personnel deployed at the post. Alert troops engaged the terrorists in an intense exchange of fire, preventing them from overrunning the installation.
During the operation, security forces pursued the fleeing terrorists with precision, eliminating 12 attackers and thwarting what officials described as a major terrorist plot.
Failing to penetrate the check post through direct assault, the terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, triggering a massive explosion that caused extensive damage to the facility.
The powerful blast resulted in the martyrdom of 15 personnel, including 12 members of the Pakistan Army, two police officials and one official of the Forest Department, whom the ISPR described as brave sons of the soil who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Security officials said a sanitization and clearance operation was immediately launched in and around the area to ensure that no remaining terrorists or facilitators were present. The operation was continuing at the time of the statement.
The ISPR reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces, in close coordination with law enforcement agencies, remain committed to eliminating the threat posed by foreign-sponsored terrorism. It said intelligence-based operations and counterterrorism actions under the national counterterrorism vision Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, will continue across the country.
The military emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs would strengthen the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism and safeguard Pakistan’s peace and security, reaffirming that operations against Fitna al-Khwarij and other terrorist networks would continue until the threat is completely eliminated.
