Security forces successfully foiled a major terror plot during a decisive counterterrorism operation in the Killi Sarawan area along the strategic Kharan–Basima Road in Balochistan. The operation targeted an armed group linked to terrorist elements and prevented what was planned as a large-scale attack in the region.
According to security officials, an estimated 30 to 35 heavily armed individuals, including operatives associated with a so-called drone unit, had infiltrated the area with intentions to establish illegal checkpoints, intimidate local residents, extort civilians, and execute coordinated terrorist activities. The group also reportedly used mosque loudspeakers to announce their presence and attempted to assert temporary control over the locality to spread fear among the population.
Acting on credible intelligence, security forces launched a precision-based operation supported by advanced surveillance and reconnaissance systems. The movement and positions of the armed group were closely tracked, enabling forces to engage them before they could fully execute their planned objectives.
At first light, security forces executed a carefully coordinated clearance operation while ensuring the protection of civilian lives and property. During the engagement, the armed group initially retreated and took shelter in a nearby school building, from where they opened fire on advancing troops. Security forces swiftly surrounded the structure and carried out a targeted clearance operation.
As a result of the operation, four terrorists were neutralized and at least six others were injured. The remaining elements dispersed under pressure, abandoning their positions and fleeing the area.
Following the clearance, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and specialized equipment from the site, including:
- Six motorcycles used for mobility and logistics
- Three quadcopter drones intended for operational use
- Three drone-launched rockets
- Fourteen rockets ready for immediate use
- Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were safely defused by bomb disposal teams
Officials noted that the recovered drones and munitions were intended for future coordinated attacks, underscoring the increasing attempt by terrorist groups to integrate drone technology into their operational tactics.
The successful operation dealt a major blow to the operational capabilities of the network involved and significantly disrupted its planning and execution capacity. Security forces emphasized that the timely intervention prevented what could have been a serious threat to civilian populations, infrastructure, and security installations in Kharan and surrounding areas.
Authorities further stated that intelligence-based operations will continue across the region to eliminate remaining elements of such networks and to ensure long-term peace and stability in Balochistan.
The operation reflects the continued resolve, preparedness, and operational effectiveness of Pakistan’s security forces in countering emerging threats and safeguarding the lives of citizens.
