The National Resistance Front (NRF), an anti-Taliban armed group, has claimed responsibility for a targeted attack in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, saying three Taliban personnel were killed and another was wounded during the operation.
According to a statement issued by the NRF, the attack was carried out near Silo Road in a district of Kabul, where its fighters targeted a Taliban military vehicle. The group claimed that three Taliban members were killed on the spot while another sustained injuries.
The NRF further alleged that the Taliban vehicle involved in the attack was destroyed during the operation.
There was no immediate confirmation from Taliban authorities regarding the reported casualties or the destruction of the vehicle. Independent verification of the NRF’s claims was also not immediately available.
The National Resistance Front, which emerged following the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, has periodically claimed attacks against Taliban forces in Kabul and several northern provinces. The group, led by Ahmad Massoud, says it is fighting what it describes as Taliban rule, while the Taliban maintain that security across Afghanistan remains under control.
In recent months, the NRF has continued to announce sporadic operations against Taliban personnel, particularly in Kabul and the northeastern regions of the country, though the frequency and scale of such attacks remain difficult to independently verify due to restrictions on access and reporting within Afghanistan.
The latest claim highlights the continuing low-level insurgent activity against the Taliban administration despite the group’s assertions that armed opposition movements have been largely suppressed.
