Terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Khwarij have attempted to destroy a key link bridge on Miryan Road in Bannu district, causing significant damage to the structure and disrupting local connectivity.
According to local sources, terrorists planted explosive material near the Teri Ram Link Bridge under the cover of darkness. The explosives later detonated in a powerful blast, damaging portions of the bridge and affecting nearby infrastructure.
Sources said a mosque located close to the bridge also sustained partial damage due to the intensity of the explosion. No casualties were immediately reported.
The damaged bridge serves as an important link for residents travelling between nearby villages and markets. Residents said the destruction has created transportation difficulties and may affect the movement of commuters, students, traders, and emergency services using the route.
The latest incident is being viewed by residents as part of a continuing pattern of attacks targeting public infrastructure in the area.
Approximately six weeks ago, terrorists targeted the Fateh Khel Police Post located along the same road. A day later, another link bridge in the Lora area was reportedly destroyed, raising concerns about a deliberate campaign aimed at disrupting civilian life and undermining public confidence.
Security analysts note that terrorist groups facing sustained pressure from security forces often resort to attacks on public infrastructure, communication routes, educational facilities, and other civilian assets in an effort to create disruption disproportionate to their operational capabilities.
Residents of the area expressed concern over the recurring incidents and called for enhanced security measures to protect critical infrastructure and prevent further attacks.
They stressed that such acts primarily affect ordinary citizens by restricting mobility, disrupting economic activity, and complicating access to essential services.
Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and initiate repair work to restore connectivity. Meanwhile, security forces and law enforcement agencies are likely to intensify efforts to identify and neutralize those responsible for the attack.
The incident comes amid ongoing counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces continue to target Fitna al-Khwarij networks through intelligence-based operations and area sanitization efforts aimed at preventing future attacks on civilians and public infrastructure.
