Iranian border security forces have successfully thwarted a cross-border infiltration attempt along the Iran-Afghanistan frontier, resulting in the elimination of six armed extremists during a security operation in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, according to Iranian authorities.
The operation took place in the border district of Zabol, where Iranian Border Guards detected and intercepted a group of armed individuals attempting to illegally enter Iranian territory from neighboring Afghanistan. Acting on operational intelligence and maintaining heightened vigilance along the frontier, border security personnel engaged the infiltrators in a fierce armed confrontation.
According to Iranian media reports, Commander of the Iranian Border Guards in the region, Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan, confirmed that six armed extremists were killed during the clash with security forces. The commander stated that the group had intended to infiltrate Iranian territory and carry out attacks against border security installations and personnel stationed along the frontier.
Security forces also recovered a cache of weapons and equipment from the possession of the deceased individuals. The seized arms have been taken into custody for further forensic examination and intelligence analysis as part of ongoing investigations into the attempted incursion.
Iranian authorities described the slain individuals as members of a terrorist organization operating in the border region. However, officials have not publicly disclosed the name of the group pending the continuation of intelligence and security assessments.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by countries sharing porous and rugged border regions, particularly in areas vulnerable to cross-border criminal and extremist activities. Iranian security forces have intensified surveillance and operational readiness across key sectors of the Iran-Afghanistan border to prevent illegal crossings and safeguard national security interests.
Officials emphasized that border security units remain on high alert and are committed to countering any threat posed by armed groups seeking to destabilize the region. The successful interdiction operation reflects the effectiveness of ongoing border management, intelligence coordination, and rapid response capabilities employed by Iranian security agencies.
Military and security analysts note that the Sistan and Baluchestan region, owing to its strategic location and challenging terrain, has long remained a focal point for border security operations. Iranian authorities have repeatedly reaffirmed their determination to confront armed groups, smuggling networks, and extremist elements operating along the frontier.
The investigation into the attempted infiltration remains ongoing, with security agencies working to determine the identities, affiliations, and operational objectives of the deceased individuals. Additional security measures have been implemented in the area to ensure continued stability and prevent any further cross-border threats.
Iranian authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and maintaining security along all international borders through proactive operations, enhanced surveillance, and close coordination among security institutions.
