The joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Bannu Police concluded with the neutralization of eight Fitna al-Khwarij terrorists following a fierce gun battle in Bannu district, according to the Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar.

The operation was launched during the early morning hours after intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists in the area. Security personnel moved to encircle the suspected hideout, leading to an intense exchange of fire.

Police officials said five terrorists were initially neutralized during the operation, while three more were eliminated as security forces tightened the cordon and continued advancing on terrorist positions. Multiple terrorists are also believed to have sustained injuries during the engagement.

One police official embraced martyrdom during the operation, while another sustained injury and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the subsequent clearance phase, a Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) team successfully recovered and defused a locally manufactured 10-kilogram improvised explosive device, commonly known as a “desi sakhta” bomb. Officials said the device posed a significant threat and its disposal prevented a potential terrorist attack.

Security forces completed a thorough search of the area before formally concluding the operation, ensuring no terrorist elements remained behind.
