Responsibility for the targeted killing of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader and former Deputy Speaker Maulana Sheikh Muhammad Idris in Charsadda has been claimed by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), according to a statement issued by the group.
In a statement published on its website, the group alleged that its fighters targeted Maulana Idris’s vehicle in the Utmanzai area on Tuesday morning.
The ISKP statement described Maulana Idris as a “pro-government religious scholar” and claimed that he was killed in the attack. It further stated that two police personnel assigned to his security were injured during the incident.
Maulana Sheikh Muhammad Idris held a prominent position within the JUI-F leadership at both district and provincial levels and was known for his strong stance against militancy.
He was shot dead in what authorities have described as a targeted attack near Utmanzai in Charsadda, while his security detail was also injured.
Police have already registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further inquiries are underway to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
