A timely operation by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of police averted a potential major disaster in Bajaur District, after explosive materials planted by terrorists were successfully recovered and neutralized in the Taranano area of Salarzai tehsil.

According to police sources, the explosives were installed by terrorists operating in the region. The Bomb Disposal Squad responded swiftly, demonstrating professional expertise in safely defusing multiple types of explosive devices.

Officials confirmed that the prompt action prevented what could have been a major incident, eliminating a significant threat to civilian life and restoring a sense of security among local residents. The area was subsequently declared clear, while search operations continue to ensure no additional explosive material remains in the vicinity.

The District Police Officer (DPO) Bajaur praised the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Salarzai police team, stating that Bajaur police remain fully prepared to counter all forms of threats. He reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remains the foremost priority, and that terrorist designs will continue to be foiled with full force.

The incident comes amid a broader and increasingly volatile security environment in tribal districts along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, where cross-border attacks involving Afghan nationals, infiltration attempts, and counteroffensive operations by security forces have increased in frequency. Bajaur has remained a key flashpoint, with repeated incidents prompting intensified security responses both within the district and along the border belt.

Security forces have stepped up intelligence-based operations and targeted responses against terrorists operating across the frontier, aiming to dismantle networks involved in cross-border violence and sabotage activities.

In a related development earlier this week (April 12), reports emerged of significant internal divisions among armed groups operating in the Wara Mamund area of Bajaur near the border, where disagreements between factions escalated into a split between Afghan-origin fighters and locally based militants. The rift reportedly stemmed from accusations of operational neglect and mistrust between commanders and field fighters.

Sources said the internal dispute began as a verbal confrontation but later escalated into physical altercations, reflecting deep fractures within the group’s structure. One faction reportedly accused its commander of exposing fighters to high-risk engagements without adequate support, while the opposing side rejected the claims and attributed the situation to misunderstandings.

Residents expressed concern over the emerging internal fragmentation, warning that continued tensions could further destabilize the already sensitive border region. Security analysts note that such divisions within militant ranks often disrupt operational cohesion and may alter the security dynamics in the area.

Authorities maintain that security forces remain alert and fully engaged to prevent any spillover of violence and to ensure that terrorists are neutralized before they can regroup or exploit internal fractures.
