Peshawar: Fresh data released by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has brought into focus the scale and scope of intelligence-based operations carried out against terrorist networks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past six years.
According to the report, CTD conducted a total of 15,403 intelligence-based operations targeting the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Gul Bahadur group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Lashkar-e-Islam. These operations resulted in the elimination of 1,557 terrorists, while 4,487 were arrested. Additionally, 287 terrorists were convicted and sentenced by courts following legal proceedings.
The data further shows that during the current year, CTD has carried out 818 intelligence-based operations, leading to the elimination of 243 terrorists, arrest of 84, and conviction of two. In the previous year, 3,253 operations were conducted, during which 458 terrorists were eliminated, 1,388 arrested and 60 convicted.
In 2024, CTD conducted 3,230 operations, resulting in 803 arrests, 271 terrorists eliminated and 54 convictions.
Similarly, in 2023, a total of 3,265 intelligence-based operations led to the arrest of 955 terrorists, elimination of 272 and conviction of 38.
In 2022, the department carried out 2,791 operations, during which 627 terrorists were arrested, 218 eliminated and 88 convicted.
In 2021, CTD conducted 2,118 operations, resulting in 630 arrests, 95 terrorists eliminated and 45 convictions.
Officials said the operations were carried out using intelligence-led strategies, modern equipment and coordinated field actions aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting their activities and bringing perpetrators to justice. They added that the department continues to enhance its operational capabilities and maintain pressure on terrorist groups to prevent regrouping and ensure sustained security across the province.
