Police in Bannu district have successfully foiled a suspected terrorist attempt after recovering and defusing an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a roadside in Kakki Tehsil, officials confirmed on Sunday. According to police sources, unidentified militants had placed explosive material on the roadside with the apparent intent of targeting law enforcement personnel or civilian traffic in the area. The device was detected during routine security vigilance operations.
Following the discovery, the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) was immediately called to the scene. The specialized team responded promptly and carried out a controlled operation to neutralize the explosive device, successfully rendering it harmless without any loss of life or property.
Police officials stated that the swift and professional response of the Bomb Disposal Unit prevented what could have been a serious incident. They added that timely intelligence and effective patrolling played a key role in identifying and eliminating the threat before it could be activated.
Authorities further confirmed that a search operation has been launched in the surrounding area to trace those responsible for planting the explosive device. Security forces are actively pursuing all leads as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Bannu and surrounding districts, stating that all possible measures are being taken to prevent such acts of sabotage and to ensure the safety of civilians.
