Three Police Personnel Injured in Hangu Attack on Polio Duty as Gun Battle Erupts

Three police personnel were injured after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a police team assigned to polio security duty near Chapri Waziran in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police officials, the team was deployed to provide security for ongoing polio vaccination activities in the area when it came under sudden fire from suspected militants. The attack resulted in injuries to three police officers.

Following the incident, security forces immediately responded, and an exchange of fire between police personnel and the attackers ensued. Officials confirmed that the exchange of fire continued for some time as additional reinforcements were dispatched to the area.

Station House Officer (SHO) Mahmood Alam stated that police units engaged the attackers following the initial assault, and efforts were underway to bring the situation under control. He added that the area was placed on high alert in the aftermath of the attack, with additional security personnel deployed to prevent further escalation.

Police authorities further confirmed that heavy contingents had been called in from nearby stations to support ongoing operations and secure the surrounding region. The injured officers were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment. Hospital sources described their condition as being under observation, with medical teams providing necessary care.

Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to locate and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of polio vaccination teams and maintaining uninterrupted public health operations in the region.
